Scientist Hope Jahren turns turns 17 Mag meme into science win for women.

When we featured some pictures of women scientists as girls, one of those women was Hope Jahren, professor and geobiologist at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She’s done a turn in turn for women in science by turning a Seventeen magazine Twitter meme into a celebration of women in science … well, their hands, anyway. Seventeen magazine sponsors #ManicureMonday each Monday for girls to show off sparklies on their fingernails. This past Monday, though, animal claws along with those nails in the hashtag feed … a lot more. Jahren asked women scientists to post their own images of their hands engaged in science … and they did!
