Mother’s Day Gift Ideas from the Source

It’s the perennial question: What do mothers want for mother’s day? Ads on television will try to tell you what to get that special mother in your life, but we asked friends of the site what they want for Mother’s Day. We got a lot of different answers. If you have anybody who is a little geeky, these are some good suggestions.

Alex Ostrem (@BirdieRising) started us off with her personal request, “For Mother’s Day, I asked for an Otterbox Symmetry series case for my Galaxy S5! Other fun ideas: hardware upgrades (extra RAM for my Linux laptop would be amazing), or a pre-order of Hello Ruby from Linda Liukas.”

Kate Clancy (@KateClancy) says she already received what she wanted, but she had suggestions for herself and for others. “…more wearable tech, especially activity sensors. I just got the Basis watch and am happy with many elements of it (actually writing a review for it right now for my blog!). The Fitbit is a less data-rich but potentially better sensor, and I have one of those too.

In terms of what I really want that don’t already have, I can’t think of anything. My daughter loves to read and be read to, so I’m just hoping we spend some of the day reading some good books.”

Geeky, science-y moms not only love their tech, they love gifts like massages, professional housecleaning, pedicures, or road trips to a local town for a cool restaurant. Tara Haelle (@tarahaelle) gave those suggestions. She also included, “a full day without my iPhone spent with my husband and the kids somewhere lovely, like a lake. And one of these.”

She added, “As far as material objects, these aren’t things I’d want because I have too much stuff right now, but they are things I would want if I wasn’t in an anti-material mood:
